Great Falls Spinners and Weavers Guild now has a new home in room 415 of the Columbus Center. Marian Stratton is in the process of moving the library to this location. Once it is set up it will be open every Monday from 7 to 9, except holidays, and the first Friday of each month from 6 to 9 during the first Friday Art Walk. By renting the room we are also members of the 4West Art League that meets on the 4th floor of the Columbus Center the Tuesday before First Friday at 7:00. Anyone interested in these happenings is welcome to attend the meetings. The four officers also have keys to the room and building if you would like to access the library at other times. You can contact me, Cathy Marquard, Katy Duncan, or Marian Stratton to schedule a time to meet you.
Friday October 1st will be the Guild’s first involvement with the First Friday Art Walk. Anyone interested in demonstrating or even selling their wares is welcome to join in the festivities just outside and inside our new home between 6 and 9 pm. This is a great opportunity to socialize with other artists and get inspired by paintings, sculpture, and even writings that adorn the halls of the 4th floor.
Since October 2nd is the first Saturday in the month it also means it is “Spin-In” time. This month we will be meeting at Gallery 16 at 10:30 to ???. Cathy Marquard is one of the featured artists and this week is the show’s opening. Let’s everyone turn out not only to socialize but to support Cathy in her endeavors.
In the last bulletin I incorrectly stated that the Guild dues were $28.00. In fact they are $24.00 for the first family member and $1.00 for each additional member. I am sorry for any confusion this has caused.
The next guild meeting will be on October 21 at 7:00 pm in our new home. Marian Stratton will be sharing what she learned at MAWS this summer in her class “1 threading, 10 tread lings.” It should be inspiration to all you weavers. If you are not interested in weaving, bring your wheel or spindle and get some spinning in or just browse the library.
All books and equipment are to be brought to the October meeting (if not before) so that Marian can get them inventoried. We are in desperate need of someone who would be willing to take on the duties of Equipment Chairman. This person will be responsible to ensure the equipment is repaired (they don’t have to do it, just make sure someone does), checking the equipment out to members and collecting the monthly rental fee. Payment of this fee is what will ensure that we have a home in the future.
If you have any questions, please contact one of the officers.
Happy Spinning and Weaving
